Numerical Linear Algebra by Trefethen & Bau. Classical and Modern Numerical Analysis: Theory, Methods and Practice, by Ackleh, Allen, Kearfott, and Seshaiyer (2009)

Recommended Books

Announcements:

• 12/12/09: Solutions to HW9 are posted below.

• 12/11/09: Here are solutions to exam 1 (removed - contact prof. if you need a copy) for you to study.

• 12/11/09: HW solutions have been posted below through assignment 8. I'll post solutions to HW 9 once I know I have received them all (probably Friday night).
Final exam and review info:
• The review session will start at 4:30 on Friday. (I have pushed it back by 1/2 hour because the ODE final was moved a little later.) We'll meet in our regular class room unless you hear otherwise.
• The final exam is next Tuesday, 12/15, at 7:30 a.m. It is two and a half hours, closed book.

• 12/5/09: The rest of HW 9 is posted below. Don't panic at the length of the file! The second problem looks long because I am walking you through most of the steps.

• 12/5/09: The first part of HW 9 is posted below. There will be one more question (coming this evening). Note that the stationary methods (such as Jacobi and Gauss Seidel are in the Ackleh book, section 3.4).

• 11/16/09: Homework 8 is posted below. It is due by Tuesday 11/24 at 4:00.

• 11/4/09: Homework 7 is posted below. Due Friday 11/13.

Read NLA lectures 24 - 30 and Ackleh Chapter 5 HW 9 12/9/09 hw9.pdf
* NLA = Numerical Linear Algebra by Trefethen & Bau
** CMNA = Classical and Modern Numerical Analysis by Ackleh, Allen, et al.
*** Late HW policy: you have 7 late days this semester to use at your own discretion. Homework is considered late (i.e., you are using one of your late days) after 4:00 p.m. on the due date. Weekends count as separate days. If you want to turn in an assignment on Saturday in order to use only one late day, for example, you can scan and email me your homework (by 4:00 p.m. Saturday). If you run out of late days, HW will be penalized 20% for each day late. I will not accept any individual HW assignment more than 7 days late.
