His Mate by Albert Payson Terhune. Terhune's first story specifically about a collie. This collection includes the rarely seen original version published in RedBook Magazine in January 1916, which differs significantly from the later version published in book form in Lad: a Dog.
The Coat of Dawn by Anice Terhune, a story of the collie Gray Dawn originally published in 1920 in Popular Magazine. The basic plot was later used by Albert Payson Terhune in 1924 for his story "Close-Clipped." This is the first book publication of one of Anice Terhune's dog stories.
