Frequently Asked Questions - Calculus III - Fall 2003

Q. 1. How are the quizzes averaged into the grade?

Q. 2. Can I get partial credit if my homework assignment is incomplete?

A.1. Your homework is graded in two parts: weekly quizzes (worth 8 points) and homework papers that you turn in (2 points).

The quizzes will consist of some of the problems that you turned in and it will be graded for correctness. The paper will be graded for completeness. You must show your work - short answers like the ones on the back of the book will not receive credit.

They will be averaged into your grade as follows: Each week you may earn up to 10pts from the quiz and homework. Take the average of the nine best quizzes plus the nine best homework papers (out of ten) and multiply it by 4.5. That will be your homework grade. For example, if your homework and quiz average is 9.2 then you will get (9.2)*(45/10)=41.4 homework and quiz points.

A.2. Yes, partial credit will be assigned according to this schedule:

2 pts   At least 90% of the assignment.
1.75   At least 80% of the assignment but less than 90%
1.5   At least 70% of the assignment but less than 80%
1.25   At least 60% of the assignment but less than 70%
