Recitation sessions (01/22/2008 - 05/09/2008):
Overview: Linear and quadratic equations and inequalities; graphs of equations; equations and inequalities involving polynomial and radical functions; exponential and logarithms and applications; trigonometric functions; real and complex zeros of polynomials; polar coordinates; DeMoivre's Theorem; solutions of systems of equations by substitution and elimination; systems of inequalities; arithmetic sequences and geometric series. This is a 5 credit course with 3 lectures and 2 recitations per week.
Prerequisite: 3 years high school math or placement exam or grade of at least C- in GC 0731.
Text: Precalculus, 8th Edition, by Sullivan.
Grading and examination policies: Homework will be assigned weekly and collected on Wednesdays at the end of lectures. They will count for 15% of the grade. There will be quizzes given every week, except for the exam weeks, on Tuesdays in recitation sessions and they will count for 10% of the grade. There will be three midterm exams in recitation sessions during the semester and a final exam. Each midterm exam will count for 15% of the grade, the final exam for 30% of the grade. Students are expected to turn in all homework problems. The lowest homework score and the lowest quiz score will be dropped. No make-up quizzes are given. The exams are closed-book. No make-up exams unless legitimate documents for excuses are presented to the instructor in advance.
Calculators: Only scientific calculators are allowed in exams and quizzes. These calculators can calculate the values of the standard algebraic, trigonometric, exponential and logarithmic functions. Graphing calculators and calculators that can do symbolic manipulations are not allowed.

Tutoring:
Advice: Come to class regularly, work on homework problems, write the solutions clearly. Ask questions in class and get help from the instructor or TAs during their office hours. Master the material quickly and do not wait too late until the midterms or final exam.
