Cheryl Beaver is an associate professor and Chair of
the Mathematics Department at Western Oregon University (WOU). She received her
Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Arizona. Prior to joining WOU,
Cheryl worked for seven years as a cryptologist at Sandia National
Laboratories. At WOU, her main focus is teaching math content courses for
elementary and middle school preservice teachers. Her
interests lie in the education of preservice
teachers, number theory, and cryptology.
Scott Beaver started his career as an engineer
before returning to school for graduate work in mathematics. He received
his doctorate in applied mathematics from the University of California Davis in
2004, and is now an associate professor of mathematics at Western Oregon
University where he has been since 2005. His mathematical interests
include the preparation of preservice elementary and
middle school teachers (particularly in probability and statistics),
inquiry-based learning, real analysis, and linear algebra.
