Dr. Joyce Mgombelo is an Associate Professor of Mathematics Education at Brock University where she teaches courses and supervises graduate students in mathematics education and cognition. Her research interests are in the areas of mathematics education, teacher education (inservice and preservice) and curriculum studies. Dr. Mgombelo's ongoing research program includes studies on: learning mathematics for teaching; mathematics cognition; identity; and ethics based on principles of human cognition, consciousness and subjectivity developed from enactivism, complexity science and psychoanalysis.

 

Dr. Chantal Buteau is Associate Professor in Mathematics at Brock University. While her first research area is Mathematical Music Theory, she progressively got involved in mathematics education since she joined the Department of Mathematics at Brock University in 2004. Her research interests involve the use mathematics technologies in mathematics education, university mathematics education, and mathematics education of future mathematics teachers.  Dr. Buteau has been a MICA I course instructor since she joined Brock, and has been active in many internal committees regarding curriculum and teacher education issues. Chantal is now an active member Canadian Mathematics Education Study Group (CMESG). At the time the paper is submitted, Chantal has been involved in two collaborative research projects, with mathematics educators, about to the use of technology in university mathematics education.
