Author 1: Dr. Jim Ewing is a tenured-track elementary education assistant professor at Stephen F. Austin State University. He was an elementary teacher for 24 years and an administrator for eight at an international school in Spain. Jim's teaching, research and service focus on how to best meet the needs of Latinx emergent bilinguals. As part of his mathematics education course, Jim's preservice teachers tutor emergent bilinguals and students of poverty at a local school. Jim is trained by Eric Jensen to give motivating workshops for teachers.

 

Author 2: Gloria Gresham has 45 years of experience in the field of education. She served as a first grade teacher, special education teacher, school counselor, and school administrator during her 30 years in public schools. In higher education, Dr. Gresham is a professor who taught elementary education, reading, early childhood undergraduate and graduate courses in the Elementary Education Department of Stephen F. Austin State University. Also, Dr. Gresham taught educational leadership classes for the Secondary Educational and Educational Leadership Department. Additionally, Dr. Gresham provided leadership to the Elementary Education Department as a program coordinator and assistant chair, and she is currently an interim chair for Secondary Education and Educational Leadership.

 

Author 3: Benjamin Dickey is a fifth grade mathematics teacher at Elgin Elementary School in Central Texas. His research interests include the education of ELLs in mathematics and the role of males in elementary schools.
