8/31/2007 - Request for two volunteer note takers:
The following is an announcement from Student Disability Services. There is a
student with a disability in this class who requires the services of a note
taker. If you are willing to provide a copy of your notes to this student for
the rest of the semester, you will be provided with a carbonless notepaper pad
that will enable you to simply take your own notes, while an automatic double
copy is made. If you are a good note taker and are interested, please talk to
me after class
(or send me an email)
so that I can arrange to get the
carbonless notepads to you. In order to protect his or her confidentiality,
please be aware that as note takers, you will not be aware or the student's
identity. You will give me the copy of notes after each class period and I will
then share them with the student.
I am looking for two volunteers; one to be the primary note taker, and one to
be a backup and take notes when the primary note taker cannot be in class.
-
8/29/2007 - TA Office Hours:
Yining (Summer) Du's office hours will be Tuesdays and
Thursdays from 2:00 to 4:00 in MA250. Phone: 742-2580. Email: yining.du@ttu.edu
-
8/29/2007 - Textbooks:
The Strauss 5th edition textbooks are in (at least at Double
T and Varsity).
If you have the 4th edition, that will be fine. I will check that homework
problems I assign are the same in the 4th and 5th editions. If you have an
older edition (3rd...) that is probably fine as well. Please compare the
homework problems in your book to a copy of the 4th or 5th edition to make sure
you are doing the same problems as the rest of the class.
The two supplemental books (Student Math Handbook and Student Survival Guide
and Solution Manual) are highly recommended. The Handbook contains
reviews of precalc, trig, algebra, etc. that can be extremely helpful. The
Survival Guide contains worked out solutions to all of the odd numbered
problems. (The textbook has the answers to odd problems, but the Survival
Guide shows complete worked solutions.) However, I do not plan to assign
work explicitly from the two supplemental books.
-
8/29/2007 - Notes: Wednesday 8/29 was the last day for which I will
provide comprehensive notes (since the textbooks are now in). I will still have
some notes projected in class. Any notes I project in class will also be
available on this web page.
-
8/27/2007 - Phone problems:
Please note that although my phone number in the
syllabus is correct, my voicemail is not currently working.
You are welcome to call me, but if I don't answer, please email rather than
leaving a phone message. I will make an announcement (here and/or in class)
when my voicemail is back up.
-
8/27/2007 - Tutoring:
The
Missouri Club offers a free tutorial service.
The tutoring service is available beginning on Tuesday, September 4.
Their hours are Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in MA 106.
(Note that their web link currently points to the summer schedule,
but I assume they will update that shortly.)
