It's a Girl Thing

The Joy of Thinking program has also led to the department providing an instructor for girls’ summer programs (Science – It’s a Girl Thing) and a series of one day programs (Super Saturdays) which attract over one hundred local girls each year. Graduate student Rachel Cline has worked on this program for the past year. Science: It’s A Girl Thing offers three separate one-week residential camps, each devoted to a particular grade level. This camp is designed to excite young females’ interests in science and mathematics and addresses a range of topics in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and several branches of engineering. The camp has been running for about ten years and this year approximately 300 young girls participated in the program.
